The city and port of Progreso continues to offer better sports spaces, both to locals and visitors; and the upcoming “Poseidón” basketball court is an example of this, because in addition to the fact that it will have first-class facilities, it will have a view of the Sea of Progreso, as highlighted by Mayor Julián Zacarías Curi during the supervision of said court.
“Progreso has talented people, and when it comes to sports, the port is no exception; I am sure that this court will be the birthplace of outstanding basketball players. We are making every effort to ensure that this place has the best facilities, both for the preparation of our future stars and for it to host important meetings,” said Zacarías Curi.
During the supervision, the councilor was accompanied by heads of the departments in charge of launching such an important project in favor of sport.
Among them, the director of Urban Development and Public Works, Luis Castro Naal, specified that the tasks include preparation for reforestation, general cleaning, and construction of steps and ramps.
The fitting out of bathrooms, the placement of lights and electrical outlets, the application of paint on benches and columns, likewise the placement of sand in planters, and the installation of signs and signage, together will make “Poseidon” a place that will host international tournaments thanks to its conditions and location.
One of the objectives that the mayor highlighted is that the new court is at the same level as spaces such as Venice Beach, California, which allows athletes to train outdoors with the beach as a setting.
Finally, Zacarías Curi highlighted that there is 80 percent progress, which is why he highlighted that: “important things are coming for the people of Progreso in 2024, we will deliver this field very soon, and later other projects that generate sports tourism.”
