The Directorate of Education in coordination with the “Aquiles Serdán” primary school of the San Ignacio police station, carried out a reforestation activity yesterday on that campus, with the purpose, not only of commemorating the Day World Environmental Education but of raising awareness among the new generations.
To this end, the director of this government agency, Dianela del Carmen Núñez Castro, was accompanied by the Councilor for Ecology, Herbert Pech Baquedano, who attended on behalf of Mayor Julián Zacarías Curi.
Pech Baquedano explained to the girls and boys the purpose of the activity and why they must receive Environmental Education from their age.
“It serves to teach the values and importance of caring for the environment, the problems that currently exist and the possible solutions and how to apply them,” he highlighted, to invite them to make changes from home and invite their friends and family to participate in actions that take care of the environment.
Both officials were received by the primary director, teacher Diana Patricia Cachón Méndez, who was grateful for the opportunity to involve her school in important actions in favor of flora and fauna.
Representing all the students of the “Aquiles Serdán” primary school, little Andrei Euan, from the sixth grade, invited his classmates to reflect on the consequences that would exist if the environment were not taken care of.
“Human beings have the responsibility to use resources wisely, to live, not to destroy, if we destroy the environment we will be harming ourselves and others, including future generations,” he expressed.
Subsequently, the children showed the authorities some posters that expressed their feelings about Environmental Education Day and then moved to the schoolyard and began the reforestation of two specimens that, according to the attendees, with great care, Very soon they will fulfill their mission: to provide ecological balance and well-being to different species in the long term.
It is worth mentioning that this activity that the Progreso City Council brought to San Ignacio today, adds to the “Improvement of the urban image” program that has been carried out for a few days, and which has the objective, not only of beautifying that community but to promote reforestation.
