According to information from the SSP, agents of the State Investigative Police (PEI) arrested five people last night, including members of the SSP itself, accused of participating in allegedly criminal acts.

The PEI agents, in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office, integrated the investigation folder with the evidence that proves the probable responsibility of the individuals.

Based on this, a Control Judge issued the arrest warrant, which was immediately carried out, and the five detainees were placed at the disposal of that authority.

They did not protect a checkpoint

The events occurred last Thursday the 8th at the SSP checkpoint, located on the Mérida-Cancún federal highway near the town of Xcan, where the now-detained elements were on duty.

The Prosecutor’s Office indicates that said agents stopped providing their service at the checkpoint, despite being obliged to do so, thus incurring a probable crime that was reported to the FGE last Monday, February 12.

The Yucatan Public Security Secretariat asserted that it will be inflexible with those elements that engage in illicit or criminal acts; and will subject them to internal procedures and the competent authorities so that they may be punished.

The Corporation highlighted that the investigation folder on the case is active, so it is not possible to make more information public.
