Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal leads a work mission to the city of Washington DC, United States, where he continues to promote Yucatán to investors from this country and technology companies, as well as the tourism sector.
As part of his first day in the US capital, he met with representatives of important companies and organizations of the North American private sector at the Mexican Embassy in Washington DC.
He was accompanied by the Mexican ambassador, Esteban Moctezuma Barragán and the director of the United States-Mexico Foundation (US-México Foundation), Enrique Perret.
During the meeting, held in the “Matías Romero” room of this diplomatic headquarters, the Governor explained the competitive advantages that the entity has in terms of infrastructure, connectivity, security, human capital formation and quality of life.
Accompanied by the head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Labor (Sefoet), Ernesto Herrera Novelo, Vila Dosal attended and responded to the concerns and questions that businessmen from various sectors asked him.
Directors and executives such as Iván Zapien from Hogan Lovells participated in the meeting with Vila Dosal; Adriana Bonilla of Arlington Economic Development; Stoney Burke of Aquia Group; Faith Colvin of Marriott International; Heather Wingate of Delta Airlines; Thomas de Geier of HP Inc.; Ruben Olmos from Global Nexus and Daniel Bremer from International Student House, among others.
With information technology companies
During this day’s agenda, the Governor also held a meeting with directors and executives of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), led by its president Robert Atkinson, whose mission is to formulate , evaluate and promote solutions that accelerate innovation and increase productivity to stimulate growth, opportunities and progress.
Also participating in the meeting with the Governor were Husani Durans, director for the ITIF Americas, Stephen Ezell, vice president of ITIF Global Innovation, Stuart Dwyer, vice president of ITIF Strategic Engagement and Fernando Loureiro, president of the ITIF Americas Committee.
Subsequently, Vila Dosal, accompanied by Moctezuma Barragán, met with John Neuffer, president and CEO of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), Jen Park, Global Policy associate and Matthew Wayland, associate of Global Policy of said group, which is one of the main export industries of electronic devices and components in the United States and a key driver of economic strength, national security and global competitiveness.
Among its members are companies such as Samsung, Toshiba, IBM, Intel, Honeywell, Nokia, among others.
Tribute to Manzanero Washington DC
At the Mexican Cultural Institute, whose building has belonged to Mexico for more than a century, Vila Dosal and Moctezuma Barragán unveiled the plaque that names “Armando Manzanero” to the Music Hall of this place and that from 1921 until the end of the 1990s In the 80s it functioned as the diplomatic headquarters of our country.
The plaque reads, both in Spanish and English: “In homage to the master of melody, eternal symbol of Mexican music. His legacy will live on in every note.”
When addressing a message, Vila Dosal recalled the human quality of Armando Manzanero and pointed out that when he started as mayor of Mérida, in 2015, the composer approached him to tell him that he was the greatest promoter and the proudest Yucatecan that existed in the world and that he would be willing to do anything he needed to promote Yucatán, a situation that was repeated when he came to the State Government.

In turn, Moctezuma Barragán highlighted that Manzanero is, without a doubt, a character that we carry in our hearts, since we have been moved by listening to him and knowing his lyrics; Musical celebrities such as Elvis Presley and Tony Bennett sang and translated his songs into English, so naming the Music Hall in his honor marks an important moment in the institute’s existence.
During the event, the Governor gave the Mexican diplomat a copy of the book Armando Manzanero, authored by the Yucatecan writer Enrique Martín Briceño, which became part of the bibliographic collection of said institute, under the direction of Ix-nic Iruegas Peón.
