A box of detergent from 1949, a glass insecticide pump, a revolver, newspapers from the 1950s, tokens from henequen farms, and many other things make up the Mobile Museum promoted by students of the degree in History from the Faculty of Anthropological Sciences from the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY).
In a statement, the coordinator of this museum, Víctor Hugo Medina Suárez, indicated that approximately five years ago they started this project thanks to the donation of a family that donated some historical documents of a hacienda and other items.
Since then, he noted, he has received objects on loan and rescued others from various places.
“This project began to grow, reaching the point of having a very extensive collection of many objects, documents, photographs, all related to the history of Yucatan.”
“Given this, we decided to bring it to the public with this name, Mobile Museum, reaching middle schools, high schools, city councils, or companies that seek to bring these items that refer to our Yucatecan work to people,” he explained.
The collection, he said, has reached institutions throughout Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo and a virtual presentation has been held at a school in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco.
Soon, the research professor revealed that he would give a conference on this collection in Coahuila, where it has aroused great interest.
Regarding the reception that the Mobile Museum has had, he specified that in each of the institutions they have visited something that they have called “places of memory” is activated because by showing the objects, while some know the past, others activate their memory and they begin to talk about their anecdotes or experiences, as well as what their grandparents used or told.
“It is not only about their daily life but about a collective task among all Yucatecans, that is a very rich and valuable thing because we need to activate our memory as a society to be cohesive,” he highlighted. Before finishing, he indicated that those interested in having the Mobile Museum come to their school or institution must send a letter addressed to the director of the Faculty of Anthropological Sciences at Uady, Rocío Cortés Campos, to process the request and determine dates and times for the expo.
