Within the framework of the commemoration of International Women’s Day, established every March 8, the Traveling Book Fair prepares a series of activities that aim to highlight female participation in the creation of texts and the promotion of reading.

On Saturday, March 2, several meetings will be held at the José Martí Cultural Center, located in the Parque de las Américas, all of them open free to the public.

Liliana Burgos Carrillo, in charge of logistics at the Reading for Pleasure Traveling Book Fairs, explains that the activity aims to demonstrate what women can do when it comes to literature.

“We are not just muses, we are creators of literary texts, of poetry, we are best-selling authors,” she pointed out.

There will be a sale of books, mainly written by women, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Bookstores such as Kamikaze, Bunnix Club, Booktrovert, La Meiga, Grupo Editorial Uribe, Verde Viento, Eilema Bazar, among others, will be present.

The civil associations Unit of Psychological, Sexological and Educational Care for Personal Growth (Unasse) and the Yucatán Accompaniment Network will be present, the latter will teach a workshop to put together protest posters for the #8M march.

The Reading for Pleasure Traveling Book Fairs are activities that take place throughout the year in parks, public squares, and shopping malls and this year the second edition is held in commemoration of March 8 (International Women’s Day).
