The Ministry of Health of Yucatán (SSY) will launch the National Rabies Vaccination Day for Dogs and Cats 2024, which will take place from March 17 to 23, as part of the annual public health efforts, reported the Director of Prevention and Health Protection, Carlos Isaac Hernández Fuentes.
In a statement, the official indicated that the goal is to apply 331,833 anti-rabies doses to dogs and cats free of charge in the 106 municipalities of the state.
To achieve this goal “we will have the support of 1,217 volunteers from the community,” he explained.
He also detailed that the head of the agency, Mauricio Sauri Vivas, instructed the installation of 371 vaccination posts throughout the state, as well as mobile brigades in the participating municipalities, to reinforce communication with the population.
This Sunday, March 17, the list of vaccination posts will be published.
Hernández Fuentes recommended that pet owners carry them safely, using a cage, leash, or sabucan.
As for the vaccine, it will be applied to animals over one month old and is valid for one year. It is safe for pregnant and lactating females, but it is not applied to sick animals or animals undergoing treatment, he said.
In Mérida, he added, there will be permanent and semi-permanent positions, in addition to the support of volunteer personnel for house-to-house vaccinations.
In the municipalities of the communities outside Merida, each city council will define its strategy, so it is recommended to pay attention to the announcements. Also, share this information with your family, friends, and neighbors to spread this public health campaign.
