Carlos Guillermo Aguirre Aguilar, president of the Association of Restaurants and Gastronomic Services of Valladolid (Reserva), reported that he has already asked his partners not to charge or ask for tips against the will of their clients who visit their businesses.

In previous months, the delegation of the Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco), in meetings held with businessmen from Canaco, hoteliers, and restaurateurs, among others, made them see that the collection of tips or commissions is an abuse against their clients and can represent fines of up to $5 million, depending on the degree of the anomaly committed.

Given this situation, Aguirre Aguilar recalled that Profeco inspectors, during the vacation period, are when they are most alert and carry out inspections in a surprising manner or, failing that, when they receive the most complaints for alleged abuses.

Aguirre said that at least he has asked his partners to ensure that his staff does not ask for, much less demand, tips since this is earned by good service to customers.

He requested that in no way should a certain percentage be included in the accounts as tips since this represents a crime that is also sanctioned by Profeco so that all its partners are warned of the consequences.

During holiday seasons, service providers usually take advantage of visitors, but they can also report any type of abuse that is intended to be committed against them. Social networks are even used to expose and expose anyone who wants to exceed their limits prices or improper charges.

“For them to do well, tourists must be served with quality and warmth so that they voluntarily give a tip to those who serve them if they want, but without any type of pressure,” he expressed.

He said that they are aware that this season many people will arrive from different parts of the country, so they must be given good attention; this will depend on whether the waiters and all the staff involved in the service get good tips.
