Be careful and above all, don’t be alarmed if, during this month, you have a close encounter with a croc, it’s OK, the crocodile nesting season has arrived in Cancun, and since the alligator population is growing in Quintana Roo, sightings are becoming more and more frequent.

Can you imagine going to work or to the beach, alone or with your family, and suddenly finding a two-meter-long reptile on the sidewalk by the lagoon in the middle of the Hotel Zone? This may happen because the General Directorate of Ecology announced the first encounter between the reptile and humans when reporting a female crocodile in the process of incubation between Playa Chac Mool and Plaza Flamingos.

The discovery caused a stir and a jam that paralyzed traffic to Plaza La Isla due to the intervention of a team of firefighters who were in charge of responding to the report to cordon off the area and avoid a misfortune involving a passerby.

It was around 6 p.m. on Wednesday that there was another report, indicating that two crocodiles were now in the area on the shore of the lagoon next to the eggs that were in the nest, just a few meters from the street. With this they highlight that this species is very territorial and protective, remaining close to their eggs to monitor and protect them.

Therefore, the authorities ask citizens to remain calm and avoid approaching areas that have been previously delimited and cordoned off by local authorities.
