Committed to the security, trust, and social cohesion of the community, the City Council headed by Alejandro Ruz Castro continues to join forces to maintain the high levels of security that the Municipality has, making Mérida a city with citizen participation, harmonious and in peace.

The municipal government, in coordination with the Secretariat of Education of the State of Yucatán (SEGEY) and the Municipal Police of Mérida, commemorated the First Anniversary of the Health Promotion Days. This event took place at the “Eduardo Urzaiz” primary school. Rodríguez”, and whose main objective is the prevention of violence and addictions, as well as strengthening the bonds of coexistence through three areas: socio-emotional education, physical activity and healthy eating.

The President of DIF Mérida, Verónica Cetina Arjona, pointed out that the City Council is working as a team with the schools.

Cetina Arjona highlighted the importance of the implementation of the D.A.R.E. program in schools, which consists in talks, workshops, and activities, imparted by qualified police officers who guide children and teenagers to avoid the consumption of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, as well as to prevent violence and abuse.

At the end of the formal ceremony, the state and municipal authorities held a physical activity session and enjoyed a puppet theater play.

The Health Promotion Days include sports activities and at the end of each day, the children receive a healthy lunch.
