The lobster season officially begins today, July 1, but with threats of bad weather amid the effects of the arrival of tropical wave no. 6, a low-pressure area that intensified into a tropical depression, coupled with the possible arrival of Hurricane “Beryl” to the peninsula in the coming days.

Preparations for this season were made since the day before yesterday, Saturday, amid the rains caused by the aforementioned phenomena.

The fishing industry businessman, Manuel Sánchez González, secretary of Fishing Shipowners (Armadores Pesqueros), reported that everything is ready for the boats to set sail to the sea in search of lobster.

It is expected that there will be good catches in the Alacranes Reef, where larger vessels catch lobster by diving and using traps.

Expectations are good, Sánchez González remarked, because in the capture area, there is inspection and surveillance by fishermen and state and federal authorities, so there was no poaching like in other areas of the coast, and these actions bring great benefits to the activity.

Despite the bad weather and warning for Hurricane Beryl, the ports were open for navigation. The lobster vessels are expected to set sail today towards the Alacranes Reef.
