Not everything was negative in Valladolid as a result of the route of Hurricane Beryl, as some hotels located in the city center had a slight increase in last-minute accommodation since a good number of tourists arrived escaping from the coasts of Tulum and the Riviera Maya in search of shelter from the cyclone.

Noé Rodríguez Cervera, hotel businessman and former president of the city’s Hotel and Hostel Association, stated that occupancy remained at 30% last week. However, on Thursday, July 4, in the afternoon and night, tourists from Tulum, Riviera Maya, and Playa del Carmen began to arrive.

The visitors, mostly foreigners, arrived at the last minute to escape the winds of Hurricane Beryl, seeking better shelter, and accommodation was increased by 50%.

He considered that some of the hotels in the city center could have been in the same circumstances, having a slight increase in accommodation. The tourists left on Saturday. Some returned to their places of origin. Others went back to their hotels in Quintana Roo.

Most restaurants in the city center did not work during the hurricane. As soon as the cyclone left, they opened immediately.

However, hotels had restaurant service, so the tourists had no problems regarding food consumption.

After the tourists withdrew, occupancy dropped to 30% again. However, there is hope that occupancy will improve during this summer holidays.
