The State Investigative Police (PEI) of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), in coordination with the State Attorney General Office (FGE), arrested two men this July 11 who offered financing for the acquisition of vehicles through social media.
The capture stems from investigations that included a search of two properties used for their operations last Monday, July 8.
Eduardo T. O., 28 years old, from the State of Mexico, and Carlos Eduardo G. C., AKA Rodrigo Castillo, 26, from Mérida, Yucatán, are accused by at least 15 people who paid them advances for the purchase of automobiles that they never received.
On Facebook, under the profile of GVS Mérida, those now detained advertised credits for purchasing vehicles, for which they used two residences north of Mérida as offices.
Interested people were received in these offices, shown photographs of the cars they were supposed to buy, and asked for an advance payment.
The investigations carried out by the SSP investigative police, in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office, support the probable responsibility of both men in the crime of fraud, for which a judge issued the arrest warrant.
State authorities call on the general public to verify the reliability of the sites promoted on the Internet and social networks before carrying out any operation to avoid being victims of deception or fraud. They reminded that, in case of suspected illegal activity, people can immediately call 911 or 089 for anonymous reporting, both operated by the SSP.
