2024 is less dynamic than 2023, says a business leader

To date, 2024 is less dynamic than 2023, and the second semester that is beginning does not look much better, acknowledged Emilio Blanco del Villar, president of Coparmex-Mérida.

However, the business leader believed that perhaps the incoming authorities would make a difference.

What worries us most today is that economic analysts estimate that 2025 will be more contracted than 2024, he stated. We must add that many are waiting for positive signs to continue with their growth plans.

Blanco del Villar declared this year is less dynamic than 2023. He attributed this to the electoral processes in Mexico and the United States.

He pointed out that companies are working and doing their best to move forward in the face of a slowing economy, in which they compete for customers and human talent that, in his opinion, is increasingly scarce.

For now, we expect an end to the year with growth of around 2.1% of GDP, as well as inflation is still above 4% and a dollar in the order of 18.10 pesos.

In the first half of the year, he considered that there were undoubtedly sectors that did better than others.

In general, you could say that the secondary sector (industrial) is still the most dynamic, followed by the primary (fishing, agriculture, and livestock) and, as always, the tertiary sector (services), commented Blanco del Villar.

Regarding the electoral campaigns in the first half of the year, the business leader stated that they always have an effect of uncertainty in any latitude of the world, “even in the United States, much of the investment slowed down by this phenomenon.”

Finally, he insisted that what worries them most is that economic analysts estimate a more contracted 2025 than 2024.
