Islander cruise from the Margaritaville at Sea shipping company arrives in Yucatecan lands for the first time.
The ship arrived at the Port of Progreso at 6:30 a.m. this Thursday, July 18, bringing with it a total of 2,931 visitors, including passengers and crew.
Yucatan is an attractive point for international tourism and with it comes the economic benefit that favors the Yucatecans proof of this is the arrival, for the first time, of the Islander cruise ship from the Margaritaville at Sea shipping company, which docked at the Port of Progreso. from early hours with a total of 2,931 visitors including passengers and crew, as a result of the constant international promotion promoted by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal.
The ship from Tampa, Florida docked this morning at 6:30 a.m., so its 1,958 passengers and a large part of its 973 crew members will be able to enjoy the natural, gastronomic, and cultural attractions throughout their stay and then set sail for their last visit point in the country.
As part of the reception, for this boat and its crew, the exchange of commemorative plaques was carried out in celebration of this first arrival, which was carried out between Raúl Paz Noriega, Technical Secretary of the Secretariat of Tourism Promotion (SEFOTUR) on behalf of the State Government, as well as cruise captain Theodore Motropoulos and port authorities of Progreso.
The Islander is a Spirit-class cruise ship operated by Margaritaville at Sea that entered service in 2000, as part of the Costa Cruises fleet under the name Costa Atlantica. The ship was subsequently sold by Carnival Corporation & Plc to the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line Operator in October 2023, and she was then renamed Islander to cover voyages in the Caribbean area.
Once the ship was received by the Margaritaville at Sea company in December 2023, it underwent reconditioning and refurbishment for the brand in a shipyard in Belfast, Ireland, until June of this year, when it officially began commercial operations.
The itinerary of this boat consists of a 5-day trip from Tampa, Florida, with the first stop being Keywest in the same state, and then making the journey to Yucatecan lands and docking in Puerto Progreso where it will remain this day until 3:00 p.m. then go to Cozumel, Quintana Roo and then make the same direct journey to the starting point.
