In the first half of this year, Yucatán reached a historical maximum number of passenger arrivals by air, registering one million 796 thousand 889 people who arrived at the Mérida “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” International Airport, indicated in a statement.
In this way, the state appears in the national ranking of the states that received the most passengers by air in the first six months of the year, according to the Airport Operational Statistics presented by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT).
In June 2024, 302,300 travelers registered at the Yucatecan air terminal. This figure represents a historical maximum and places Yucatán among the first in the national ranking. Likewise, the Merida airport was in second with the highest annual growth in passengers, registering a rate of +7.4%, higher than the national rate of +0.4%.
All of this translated into an increase of +0.8%, surpassing the national growth of +0.6%, which is why the state was among the first five places in the ranking of accumulated growth of airports with the highest passenger flow, based on the report.
Regarding the cargo segment, the “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” Airport registered 12,774 tons. That is the historical maximum in volume for the first six months of the year, placing this terminal within the first nine places in this area.
According to statistics, it also ranked third with the highest accumulated growth in air cargo, registering a rate of +4.3% and among the top 9 in the country with the highest volume during June 2024, reporting a total of 2,071 tons. Yucatán has increased its air connectivity with international flights to Orlando and Miami, in the United States. In addition, as part of this increase in air connection in the region, there are two direct routes: Guanajuato-Mérida, operated by Volaris and Viva Aerobús, as well as Mérida-Guatemala and Mérida-Flores, by TAG Airlines, with 4 and 3 flights a week, respectively, and competitive rates.
