The residents of the Xocén community in Valladolid received a tremendous scare after a large ceibo tree fell and opened a sinkhole.

The events occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, when neighbors on 6th by 7th Street, from the community, heard a loud noise that broke the silence of the night.

Frightened, they left their houses to see what had happened. Near a well was a large ceibo tree 3 meters wide and 15 meters high, which fell and opened a sinkhole measuring approximately 20 by 20 meters and unknown depth. The monumental ceibo tree went to the bottom of the sinkhole.

After the incident, some fans and connoisseurs of Mayan culture referred to the underworld of that pre-Hispanic culture.
