Another case of animal cruelty in Mérida, this time the victim is a cat

A defenseless cat was the victim of an alleged act of animal cruelty by a person, according to witnesses of the incident.

Residents of the Francisco de Montejo sector, in the north of Mérida, reported that the incident occurred outside a Dunosusa store, a place frequented by the feline where an employee of this establishment allegedly kicked the animal in front of several people.

This incident caused concern among animal rights activists, who criticized the actions of the aggressor.

“Let them see who they hire and that we as a group, Independent Rescuers United of Mérida, can give them awareness courses on how sentient beings should be treated. For my part, my family and acquaintances, we are going to do an act of solidarity with this kitten by not buying from that place again,” denounced Elsa Arceo Medina, representative of Independent Rescuers United of Mérida.

According to local media outlets, the cat in question used to spend a lot of time inside the store, whose staff allowed it, and many customers themselves used to buy cat food to feed the animal right outside the store premises.

A change in the management of the store would have brought in other workers who were not familiar with the animal, which would trigger the attack.

Likewise, witnesses of the incident were asked to file the corresponding complaint, since until now, the matter has only been reported by the press and by citizens on social networks, but no formal complaint has been issued before the corresponding authorities.
