The training of 10 women with the Ellas al Volante program of the Yucatan Transportation Agency (ATY) began to be incorporated into the “Va y Ven” transportation system.
This is an unprecedented scheme that seeks to promote the paradigm shift of women behind the wheel since they contribute qualities of responsibility and empathy to the service.
With the support of Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, Yucatan breaks paradigms and continues to promote the transformation of public transportation, now incorporating, for the first time in history, women in the service, so that the first generation of operators of the “Va y Ven” Public Transportation System will be counted on.
A total of 10 women began training as part of the Ellas al Volante program of the Yucatan Transportation Agency (ATY) with which Yucatecan women will have a new competitive job opportunity since they contribute qualities of responsibility and empathy, improving the quality of this service, so that their contribution will bring great benefits.
Proud to be part of this first generation, for Maritrini López Anguino this means a great opportunity for development, so she did not hesitate to take it because, for her and her family, it means access to a better quality of life.
“Being part of the first group of female operators is something incredible and I am sure that we are going to make a difference. I remember that there were prejudices against female drivers but with these opportunities you open the way for more of us. I feel very proud because it is a very big but very nice responsibility and I am even moved to be part of this first group that I believe is going to be something great for the state, for my family and for the legacy. All women in the state are being given an opportunity to have a new life, to raise their children more easily and to grow as proud women,” said the mother of 3 children.
López Anguino indicated that, in other times, to be able to earn what she will earn as an operator she had to do three jobs and even then it was not the same amount, sacrificing time with her children; She also recommended that other women like her create a support network with which they can demonstrate their abilities and skills when driving a unit like those of the “Va y Ven” system.
Future operators will receive theoretical and practical training on topics such as ethics, values of the “Va y Ven” system, inclusion, safety and self-care for female operators, mobility and gender, prevention and care of sexual harassment, defensive driving, operation of a “Va y Ven” unit, as well as being prepared in the modern driving simulator to finally go out into the field.
Also, Monica Aguilar Guzman assured that being part of Ellas al Volante will contribute to surpassing herself, achieving the dream of driving a public transport unit and with that, continuing to be an example for many women.
“I am fulfilling my dreams and surpassing myself, which makes me feel full of satisfaction and with that I hope that my children continue to feel proud of me. Seeing these opportunities and how there is this awareness towards us, fills me with satisfaction for having lived this stage and I am grateful that this door has been opened in Yucatan,” said the future operator.
The women who receive this training have participated in different psychological, nutritional, optometric and toxicological evaluations. Throughout the training, the women will receive financial support of 250 pesos per day, as well as free access to psychological, nutritional and optometric consultations, discounts on the manufacture of lenses, clinical analysis and ophthalmological consultations.
These benefits also extend to their sons and daughters. At the end of the training, the operators will leave with a job and legal benefits, agreeing according to their decision to remain part of the staff of the company they choose.
