Manuel Contreras Alcalá, president of the National Chamber of Commerce of Progreso, highlighted that in the summer season that just ended, merchants and service providers reported a spill of more than 600 million pesos.

This, he indicated, represents an increase of 5% compared to 2023.

The business leader highlighted that the arrival of visitors increased due to the interest aroused by the statue of Poseidon, a topic that went viral on social networks and even placed Progreso in the spotlight of international attention.

He then assured that the success of the summer was also reflected in hotel occupancy and the rental of beach houses.

The president of the Canaco of Mérida, Levy Abraham Macari, pointed out that the economic spillover after the end of the summer holidays was good, but now the sale of school supplies and the national holidays will be what generates significant commercial activity.
