The head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes against Animals, the Environment and Ecosystems, Alexandro Brown Gantus, stated that they are still in the process of putting together the investigation file against former Campeche Governor Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas (aka Alito), for the poisoning of more than 40 stray dogs.

“We are still in the process of putting together the investigation file, there were elements that were not there when we took office, or that are missing to be able to formally present it to the judge, what we want is for there to be no doubt that the poisoning of the animals was intentional,” he said.

On May 21 and 22, 2019, at least 40 street dogs died from severe poisoning allegedly due to the ingestion of high amounts of rat poison deposited in dog food in parts of the city.

At that time, a complaint was filed with the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection, while the head of the Environmental Attorney for Campeche back then, José Bravo Negrín, reported that they requested the Public Security Secretariat access to the video surveillance cameras of nearby businesses to find those responsible.

Despite the statements of these officials, five years later there has been no progress in the investigation opened against those involved, where the material actors are allegedly people linked to the national leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas.

Brown Gantus reiterated that they began with the recovery of the investigation file undertaken at that time, to reinforce it with the evidence they obtained at present and submit it to the corresponding authorities.
