Serious accident on the Mérida-Campeche leaves 8 seriously injured

A tremendous accident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, September 10 at kilometer 154 of the Mérida-Campeche federal highway, exactly a few meters before reaching the SSP checkpoint.

The accident involved a cargo truck that was traveling on the aforementioned highway from north to south bound for Mérida.

Also in front of it was a van-type truck, with several construction workers who were heading to their workplace. And a Nissan Tsuru sedan with several employees of a well-known purified water plant in the Yucatecan capital.

So far there is no precise information on how the events occurred.

But the cargo truck ended up overturning on its right side, ending up on the central median and part of the unit on the road, dropping several tons of cement.

The van, in which several men were traveling, ended up overturning too, leaving the asphalt, and rolling over several times until it ended up with its tires facing up.

Meanwhile, the Nissan sedan ended up off the road on the side of the central median with the rear of the vehicle totally destroyed.

Since the police checkpoint was close, officers stationed at the scene quickly ran to help the injured who were beginning to get out of the overturned van on their own feet.

Several SSP units arrived at the scene, including ambulances, firefighter, and rescue trucks, also patrol cars from the municipal police of Umán showed up at the scene.

So far, eight injuries have been reported, two of them seriously, who were traveling in the van.

The National Guard took charge of the situation.
