A serious accident occurred on Tuesday, September 17, around one in the afternoon in the north of Merida, in the roundabout near the Siglo XXI Convention Center on Calle 60 Norte. One person lost his life.
An elderly woman was hit by a car when she tried to cross the avenue and within minutes the emergency services arrived to take her to the hospital.
However, due to her injuries, the woman was in a serious condition and even fell into cardiac arrest, which had to be treated immediately by paramedics.
The elderly woman, who has not yet been identified, tried to cross the street in an area far from the pedestrian crossing but was hit by a silver Kia vehicle, which caused her fatal injuries.
The woman was completely unconscious and was quickly rushed into an ambulance, however, she died upon arrival at the hospital.
A trail of blood was left at the scene of the accident and police arrived there to place tape, regulate traffic, and take measures to prevent another road accident from occurring.
The driver involved has been arrested for the determination of responsibilities.
