The next Secretary of State Tourism Promotion (Sefotur), Darío Flota Ocampo, recognized the need to increase the tourism promotion budget to meet the challenge of increasing the arrival of visitors to Yucatán.

Starting October 1, Flota Ocampo will focus on revitalizing tourism with a focus on the regional and national markets.

Darío Flota highlighted that to meet the hotel and tourism expectations it is essential to increase the budget allocated to the Yucatán promotion. “The needs of hoteliers require more money,” said the tourism consultant, emphasizing that short-term efforts will focus on attracting more national and regional tourists.

The next secretary emphasized that work will be done to promote regional and national tourism, as well as in international cities with direct flights to Mérida. Flota Ocampo explained that to obtain results, participation in forums and tourist fairs that can attract visitors to Yucatán is essential.

In addition to Mérida, Flota Ocampo mentioned that Yucatán has seven Magical Towns with an enormous tourism potential. Among them, Valladolid and the El Cuyo area stood out, due to their proximity to popular destinations such as Holbox in Quintana Roo.

One of the main lines of work during the administration of Joaquín Díaz Mena will be the promotion of tourism as a tool to move the economy and improve living conditions in communities near tourist projects. Flota Ocampo assured that Yucatán has all the elements to continue growing in the tourism field.

This increase in tourism promotion will not only attract more visitors but will also help strengthen the local economy and offer better opportunities for Yucatecans.
