Dozens of families from 13th Street in Chuburná de Hidalgo in the city of Mérida blocked the road in protest against a power failure since Saturday, September 28th.
MERIDA, YUCATAN.- According to those affected, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that they would not repair the damaged transformer until Wednesday, causing outrage among residents.
One of the neighbors, José Mérida, said that, when communicating with the CFE staff, they were told that, because it was the weekend, no work would be done until Monday.
In addition, they were warned that the replacement of the transformer could be extended until Wednesday.
This situation has caused economic losses and increased unrest since homes and businesses in the area depend on the electric service.
“We find it unacceptable that we have to be without electricity for so many days. We cannot stay like this, especially with the heat and the economic impact that this generates,” said the resident.
So far, the CFE has not issued an official response in this regard, while the residents of Chuburná continue to demand a prompt solution.
The power cuts are constant in various parts of the city, which has forced those affected to block roads.
