No casualties reported as Milton hits Celestún and Sisal

Celestún and Sisal, the municipalities most affected by the passage of Hurricane ‘Milton’

Hurricane Milton, which was downgraded to Category 4, identified the municipalities of Sisal and Celestún as the ones that suffered the most damage with flooding, fallen trees, and no telephone network.

According to reports from the Civil Protection of the State of Yucatán, for example, in the municipality of Celestún, some fallen poles and lines are reported, and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is working on restoring electricity.

In this municipality, for now, there is no cell phone service and the main entrance has been affected by flooding.

In the case of Sisal, the damage was such that the roof of the softball field stands and some palapas were reported to have collapsed.

More than a thousand people from El Cuyo, Río Lagartos, and Las Coloradas were transferred to various shelters.

The governor of Yucatan, Joaquin Diaz Mena, reported that the international airport of the city of Merida, Manuel Crescencio Rejon, is preparing to reopen its operations starting at 9:00 am.

The CFE recorded an impact on electricity for nearly 8 thousand people, although it assures that the service has already been restored to 40 percent.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that “Milton” has weakened to a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, has sustained winds of 250 km/h and gusts of 280 km/h, is located 85 km north-northwest of Dzilam and 118 km west-northwest of Rio Lagartos.
