Gov. Joaquín “Huacho” Díaz leads the count of damages in Celestún

The Governor of the State, Joaquín Díaz Mena, toured the streets of Celestún and other coastal towns to survey the damages left by the passage of Hurricane “Milton”, in addition to reiterating the support of his administration to the affected families so that they can return to their homes and resume their daily activities.

Accompanied by the mayor of Celestún, Germán Jesús Cauich Pinto, representatives of the Navy, the Armed Forces, and State Security (SSP), the Governor visited the temporary shelter set up in the church of La Purísima Concepción, located next to the municipal palace, where he spoke with the people who since last night moved to this place to overcome the strong winds and rain brought with it this phenomenon.

During his tour, the Governor visited the area called “Cartolandia” and the Felipe Carrillo Puerto neighborhood of this municipality, where he instructed the State Health Secretariat (SSY) to initiate actions to prevent outbreaks of diseases such as gastroenteritis and dengue.

There, Díaz Mena announced that with the help of personnel from the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) Yucatán and the Ministry of Welfare, he will conduct a supervision tour from Celestún to Progreso, Chelem, Chicxulub, Chuburná Puerto, which will end in the municipalities of Telchac, Dzilam de Bravo and el Cuyo, municipality of Tizimín.

He also announced that, together with state authorities, members of the Armed Forces and citizens, cleaning work will be carried out in the streets of Celestún to ensure that families return to normal as soon as possible and thus avoid outbreaks of diseases caused by flooding.
