The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) formulated the charge against J.A.B.C. for the crime of cruelty against animals, reported after the events that occurred last week against a canine named “Covi”, who died from injuries received with a sharp weapon in the streets of the town of San Pedro Chimay, in the municipality of Mérida, for which he will be under the precautionary measure of justified preventive detention.

After a coordinated effort between FGE personnel and agents of the State Investigation Police (PEI) of the SSP, who executed an arrest warrant issued by the Second Control Judge, the accused was presented for the formulation of the charge and later to argue the link to the process for the events that occurred on October 11. The hearing will resume next Saturday, October 19.

The facts, compiled in the investigation file of criminal case 397/2024, establish that they occurred last Friday, October 11, when the accused caused the death of the canine “Covi” when he was on 24th Street by 15 and 17 A in San Pedro Chimay, where he slashed him in the neck with a knife, causing his death as a result of acute anemia due to hemorrhage secondary to laceration in the carotid artery, as determined by a medical expert from the Forensic Veterinary Service of the FGE.

Finally, the Control Judge determined that for the entire duration of the process, the accused would remain in a detention center until his participation in the reported events was clarified.
