The popular Pig Beach, located in Progreso, Yucatán, remains closed while rehabilitation and regularization work is carried out.

This temporary closure responds to observations made by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) and the damage caused by Hurricane Milton. The mayor of Progreso, Erick Rihani González, stated that the piglets are in a safe place and well cared for during the process.

News of the closure sparked concern in the local community and among regular visitors to Pig Beach, known for its interaction with Vietnamese piglets.

Rihani confirmed that the animals are on a small recreational farm in Paraíso, where they receive food and veterinary care.

The measure allows you to ensure your well-being while complying with Semarnat requirements.

“We removed the piglets from the site to ensure their safety and health while we regularize the Pig Beach scheme,” the mayor said.

In recent years, Pig Beach has gained popularity, attracting large numbers of tourists. However, its growth has also created challenges, such as animal overpopulation and environmental impact.

The authorities seek to balance tourism development with the protection of the environment and animal welfare.

“We are looking for a clean start for Pig Beach; The reopening will depend on the agreements with Semarnat and other organizations,” Rihani added.

Although there is still no set date for the reopening, Rihani noted that the municipal administration is working on the necessary permits.

The possibility of opening an additional space in the municipality is also being evaluated, in case the return of the piglets to their original location is not feasible.

Pig Beach represents a unique attraction for the Yucatecan region, and its return is eagerly awaited by both the local community and tourists.
