The municipal president of Merida, Cecilia Patron Laviada, awarded 3,009 nine economic scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year, aimed at primary and secondary school students, consisting of 600 pesos every two months. Of that total, 1,161 were awarded for the first time and 1,848 were for renewal.
“Every boy and girl deserves all the support. When we bet on the education of our children we are betting on them having a better future and that is why in the City Council of Merida we are their allies,” said Patron Laviada.
At the Polyfunctional of the San José Tecoh neighborhood, Cecilia Patron mentioned that these scholarships, which will benefit both new students and those who already received support, represent a significant increase that had not been seen for 15 years, going from 500 to 600 pesos every two months.
With this additional support, families will be able to allocate these resources to other household needs, which will contribute to family savings and improve their quality of life.
“This increase is not just a figure; it represents an opportunity to alleviate family expenses. Use them in the best way possible, whether for transportation, uniforms or school supplies,” she continued.
In front of mothers and fathers, he reminded parents that his commitment is to work for a fair and supportive Mérida, where inclusion, solidarity, and social development are promoted for all with the same opportunities and rights.
He announced that a new English academy would soon open in the south of Mérida.
“We must give opportunities to our children and the people of Mérida. A person who knows a second language earns up to four times more than someone who does not speak it. That is why we continue working together to achieve what has never been achieved: empowering children and youth on this path that we travel together for the benefit of Mérida and all its inhabitants,” Cecilia Patrón concluded.
