Early this Sunday, a tragic accident occurred at kilometer 17 of the Mérida-Umán highway, which claimed the life of one man, and another was seriously injured.
The accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. today when two men were traveling on a motorcycle heading to Umán. According to the first reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle for reasons not yet determined. This caused it to be projected forcefully against a concrete retaining wall.
After the impact, the occupants and the motorcycle were left lying on the road. One motorcyclist died instantly due to the extent of his injuries and another is in serious condition in the hospital.
Paramedics from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) arrived to provide emergency medical care and transfer the survivor to a hospital. The area was cordoned off by State Police agents to prevent new incidents and allow other authorities to proceed.
Minutes later, personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office arrived at the site to carry out the corresponding procedures, including the removal of the body and the collection of evidence to clarify the causes of the accident.
On repeated occasions, authorities have called on motorcyclists to take extreme caution and respect speed limits to avoid more tragedies on the region’s roads.
