Federal Government cuts budget for the state of Yucatan

The researcher of the Maya Culture of Yucatan, Freddy Poot Sosa, declared that the federal budget cut for Yucatan of more than 35 percent for 2025, will force the State Government to adjust its state budget and prioritize the works that are necessary for the state.

Poot Sosa regretted the drastic cut of more than 35 percent of the federal budget for Yucatan for 2025 since it puts at risk important works such as the expansion of the Deepwater Port of Progreso that the previous governor, Mauricio Vila Dosal, could not carry out due to lack of federal support.

He stressed that Yucatan and Campeche, unlike the other States of the country, need to depend on the Federal Government budget since they do not produce enough income to not depend so much on the federation, while other States do generate enough Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and their own income, and do not depend entirely on federal contributions.

He pointed out that, for example, Quintana Roo, with its beautiful beaches and seas, generates a lot of economic income thanks to the national and international tourism that visits that entity all year round; therefore, they do not depend on many federal contributions to get ahead, on the contrary, they have a strong budget for the needs of their population.

Finally, Poot Sosa said that the State Government should prioritize the expansion of the Deepwater Port of Progreso, important for the export of local products and also for the arrival of products, food, and grains; the state or federal budget should be authorized to carry out this important work for the benefit of the industrial, commercial and business sector of the State.
