Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena headed the installation of the Commercial Board of the Port of Progreso, a space for collaboration, dialogue, and joint work with the business sector, and authorities from the three levels of government and customs agencies.

“With this Commercial Board, we seek to identify the possible lines of business for the port. For this reason, we have delivered a questionnaire that will allow us to gather key information to define this project’s commercial and logistical vocation. It is a process in which the participation of all of you is fundamental because no one knows the needs and potential of the port better,” he said.

This meeting occurred one day after the visit to Mérida of Alessandro Tocci, Chairman of Fincantieri Americas, accompanied by Lino Cezza, consultant. In a private meeting with Governor Díaz Mena, technical aspects of the executive project of the new shipyard, project costs, energy generation requirements, and transport logistics were reviewed.

The possible economic benefits for the state were also discussed and the commitment to sign a new letter of intent in the first quarter of next year for the construction and operation of a new shipyard in the port of Progreso was reaffirmed.

Also present at this meeting were Rear Admiral Víctor Manuel Fernández Carrasco, manager of the Asipona of the Port of Progreso; accountant Alicia Lara Alcocer, marketing manager of the Asipona; and Roxana Cua Cuevas, deputy manager of commercial planning.

Today, Governor Díaz Mena, in a meeting with businessmen, reported on this meeting and highlighted that this joint effort seeks to position Yucatán as a key logistics node in international trade.

“It is an honor to be with you today in this space for dialogue and joint work, where we take a firm step towards the development of Yucatán through the modernization and expansion of the Deepwater Port of Progreso,” he said.

He stressed that, with the support of the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, this project will transform Progreso into a benchmark for international maritime trade and a platform that will allow Yucatán to compete globally.

Before the president of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (CANACINTRA) and the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) of Yucatán, Alejandro Gómory Martínez; the president of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (COPARMEX) Yucatán, Emilio Blanco del Villar; the president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism of Mérida (CANACO – SERVYTUR), Levy Abraham Macari; and the president of Aviomar, Octavio Molina Casares, Governor Díaz Mena recalled that, with the participation and contribution of each of the members of this table, from their area of experience, the best opportunities for Progreso and the entire state can be defined.

“We are going to make the Port of Progreso a symbol of transformation, an engine of development, and an open door to new opportunities for all Yucatecans,” he concluded.

The Secretaries of Economic Development and Labor (SEFOET), Ermilo Barrera Novelo; of Infrastructure for Well-Being, Alaine López Briceño; and of Tourism Development (SEFOTUR), Darío Flota Ocampo, were present, as well as the General Coordinator of Advisors to the State Government, Dafne López Martínez.
