With the arrival of the Explora I cruise ship in Progreso, Yucatan is beginning to appear as a destination of interest for international high-end shipping companies, which seek to take their passengers to enjoy unique experiences that they share with the destinations on their routes.
The Explora I, owned by the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC Group), docked for the first time in Progreso with 394 passengers and 643 crew members who will experience Mayan culture for 12 hours and will be amazed by the archaeological attractions, beaches, and emerald-colored waters of the ports of Yucatan, among others.
Representing the Governor of the State, JoaquÃn DÃaz Mena, the Secretary of Tourism Development, DarÃo Flota Ocampo, accompanied by municipal and federal authorities of the Port of Progreso, presided over the ceremony of exchanging plaques with the ship’s captain, Pietro Sinisi, originally from Italy.
With this ship, Explora Journey Cruises begins operations in Yucatan, which has scheduled arrivals for the 2024-2025 winter season.
It was reported that the Explora I set sail from Miami, Florida, in the United States, on December 16, to begin its eight-day route through the International Caribbean, including the destinations of Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Grand Cayman Island, Cozumel, Progreso and ending in Miami.
In the dynamics of tourist activity in the cruise segment, Yucatan will close in December with the arrival of 20 ships, which drive the constant flow of visitors to the archaeological sites, mainly to Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, Mérida, as well as to the beach clubs in the ports near Progreso.
