The Mérida International Airport, Manuel Crescencio Rejón, closed the year 2024 with a record of 3 million 716 thousand 633 passengers, exceeding expectations for the period.
Of this total, 90% corresponded to national traffic, while the remaining 10% was international, reflecting the rise of the destination both in Mexico and abroad.
Héctor Navarrete Muñoz, general director of Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), highlighted that the airport’s performance consolidates its role as a key axis in the connectivity of the region.
Compared to the 3 million 702 thousand 105 passengers registered in 2023, this new record underlines the dynamism and confidence in Yucatán as a tourist and investment destination.
“This growth drives us to continue improving our facilities and services to meet growing demand,” stated Navarrete Muñoz.
In addition, he reaffirmed that the cultural, gastronomic, and archaeological attractions of Yucatán, as well as its position as a venue for exclusive events, have been decisive in this achievement.
The airport administrator, Óscar Carrillo Maldonado, highlighted that significant improvements are being implemented to guarantee safer and more sustainable operations.
Among them, the incorporation of a new recreational area for minors in the last waiting room stands out, designed to offer a more comfortable experience for families. Likewise, he mentioned that the airport’s three cultural galleries continue to be a unique distinctive feature, promoting art and culture among travelers.
