According to the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (Itaee), Yucatán showed good progress in its development of commercial activities during the third quarter of 2024 with a growth of 2.7 percent, that is, one percentage point above the national average.

In the recent study shared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), it was revealed that tertiary activities had more boom in the entity, since between 2023 and 2024 they showed significant growth.

Regarding the variation in state economic activity with seasonally adjusted figures in the third quarter of 2024, the state represented 2.7 percent. In contrast, entities such as Campeche (-10.5%) and Quintana Roo (-13.7%) suffered significant declines, reflecting a contrasting economic environment at the national level.

In the primary activities sector (agriculture, animal husbandry and exploitation, forestry, fishing, and hunting), Yucatan had an impact of 4.4 percent, when the national average was 4.1.

Regarding secondary activities (mining, manufacturing, construction, and electricity industries), the state had a -0.7 percent.

In the tertiary sector (services and commerce), it obtained 3.9 percent, ranking sixth at the national level.

The state government has highlighted public policies aimed at economic development, especially in infrastructure, education, and attracting investments in sectors such as technology, agribusiness, and renewable energy, key areas for the economic future of the region.

The projections for the last quarter of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 are positive, although challenges such as inflation and federal macroeconomic policies could influence the pace of growth. However, Yucatan’s economic diversification seems to offer a good outlook for maintaining this pace of expansion.
