A woman and her son with cerebral palsy were allegedly discriminated against by a driver of the Va y Ven transportation system, according to a video posted on social media.

In the footage, the mother states that the driver denied her service despite explaining that she was transporting her son in a stroller due to his disability. Finally, the driver forced her to get out of the unit.

The video, just under two minutes long, registered the moment in which the woman argues the need to take the stroller up.

In one fragment, he is heard saying that she cannot afford a wheelchair that this is the only means of transportation she has for her son, and that in no other unit had she been denied access.

Despite the driver’s insistence that she had to fold the stroller to board, the woman chose to get off the unit and later posted the video of the events on social media.

Given the spread of the case, the Yucatán Transportation Agency (ATY) issued a statement in which it condemned the events that occurred in a unit on the Metropolitan Circuit route.

In the document, the ATY indicates that the driver made it difficult for the mother and her son to access the bus, for which it was decided to sanction him. Furthermore, the statement emphasized that this behavior does not represent the values of the Va y Ven transportation system.

On Wednesday, February 5th, ATY personnel contacted the affected user and, after evaluating the situation, concluded that the driver involved in the situation, in addition to being suspended, must attend the Training and Certification Institute for Public Transport Operators.
