Mérida, Yucatán.- The United States government has denied a visa to Hernán Vega Burgos, current Undersecretary of Prevention and Social Reintegration of Yucatan, due to his alleged links to a sexual exploitation network in the state.

In October 2024, Governor Joaquin Diaz Mena appointed Hernán Vega Burgos as Undersecretary of Prevention and Social Reintegration.

Vega Burgos, who previously served as a delegate of the National Institute of Migration, was implicated in 2009 in a case of trafficking of Costa Rican women. At that time, two young women escaped from a safe house in the Mexico Oriente neighborhood, where they were forced to work as prostitutes.

According to statements from the victims, Vega Burgos was part of the network operated by the well-known madame Keisy González, who supposedly paid him 15 thousand pesos a month to operate without interference. This fact led to preliminary investigation 583/19ª/09.

Now, with his record under scrutiny, the United States has decided to deny him a visa, which calls into question his continued tenure in the Yucatan government.
