During the administration of Layda Sansores San Román, in the government of Campeche, violence on the streets spread to the interior of homes, and the crime of domestic violence increased by 277.7 percent between 2021 and 2024, going from 314 complaints to 1,186, respectively.
The information collected by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) establishes that, during the current government in this entity, in 2023, 2,151 investigation files were started for domestic violence, which represents an increase of 585 percent, concerning 2021, the highest in Sansores’ administration.
Sansores San Román began her term as governor of Campeche on September 16, 2021, a month that ended with only 2 complaints for that crime.
For the following month, there were 7 cases of domestic violence reported to the Attorney General’s Office of the entity, and the number of reported cases began to skyrocket, when, in November 2021, there were 140 cases and the year closed with 149 complaints.
Of the 314 cases of domestic violence that year, 298 corresponded to the beginning of Sansores San Román’s period in the governorship; without defined policies in his government to combat this criminal phenomenon.
As of 2022, the number of complaints of domestic violence no longer returned to the single-digit figure; of the 1,957 files that year, 182 were in August and 180 in March, the months with the most reported cases.
Of the 2,151 investigation files for this crime in 2023, 231 cases occurred in June and 227 in July, the most critical months for Campeche families; last year, of the 1,186 reported cases, 189 were in March and 179 in May.
