Civilians managed to prevent a man from taking a refrigerator that he had stolen moments before from a home on 43-B Street (between 50 and 52) in the Piedra de Agua subdivision of Uman.
Witnesses quickly called the 9-1-1 emergency number, which sent a municipal police patrol car to the scene.
The officers interviewed the residents, who reported that they saw a man entering a property in the area after forcing open the window guards and then leaving through the main door with a “carrier” in which he was carrying a refrigerator.
Once they knew the individual’s characteristics, they set about locating him, finding him several blocks ahead, walking around with the refrigerator on the carriage.
Therefore, they proceeded to question who the appliance belonged to, and as the man could not prove ownership, he was arrested and taken, including the appliance, to the municipal police station.
The owner of the house went there and was able to prove that the fridge was his.
In the end, the thief was handed over to the public prosecutor’s office in the city of Uman, where a control judge would take charge of his legal situation.
