The Secretary of the Navy (Semar), through the Mexican Navy, reported on the seizure of prohibited fishing products and fishing gear during a surveillance operation in Yucalpetén, Progreso.

Personnel from the Ninth Naval Zone, in coordination with the Federal Maritime Reservation (Remafe), carried out surveillance tours on the Yucatecan coast with the aim of preventing illegal fishing.

During these actions, a smaller abandoned boat, equipped with an outboard motor, was detected.

The Mexican Navy seized 278kg of illegal fishing, in addition to a tank, harpoons and gasoline drums.

When inspecting the boat, the authorities located 278 kilograms of fishery product, including grouper and snail, species that are closed.

Also found was a compressor with a tank, 100 meters of hose, three harpoons, seven empty fuel drums (with a capacity of 50 liters each) and communication equipment.

The boat and the seized items were placed at the disposal of the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Commission (Conapesca), and the corresponding minutes were drawn up to integrate the investigation folder.
