Approximately 55% of the monthly reports of cases of some type of violence against animals turn out to be false, reported the director of the Environment and Animal Welfare Unit, Raúl Escalante Aguilar.
The official indicated that the Animal Protection Unit receives around 100 reports per month, but so far in February, 174 cases have already been registered.
According to him, of the 174 cases registered, 20 the animals were removed due to abuse or dangerous situations, while 18 are in the administrative process due to the recent incorporation of a judge specialized in Animal Protection at the end of January.
The other reports in February correspond to cases of correction to the owners to improve the conditions in which their animals live or have been false reports.
In an interview, following the alleged discovery of skins in a city market, Escalante Aguilar indicated that just over half of these reports are usually false and are often motivated by disputes between neighbors or apparent acts of violence.
