The wooden walkway in Progreso, colloquially known as “Deck”, is now ready to receive visitors. Last weekend, visitors who came to see the Progreso Carnival even used it to walk between the two piers.
During a tour of the place, it was possible to see that the mounds of sand that Hurricane “Beryl” left behind in this space were no longer present. In addition, all the wood destroyed by the phenomenon was repaired and replaced.
On Monday the 3rd, people were seen walking along the rescued walkway, although an area still cannot be accessed. The Muelle de Chocolate has been out of service since the same dates, after Hurricane Beryl.
There, the City Council has placed banners with messages that indicate the way to go to the international pier and prohibit access to the pier. They also indicate an upcoming opening, although without specifying a date.
It is worth remembering that during the last few weeks, staff from the Directorate of Public Services and Ecology, together with the Administration of the National Port System of Progreso (Asipona), carried out the necessary actions to reactivate this space, thus providing a more complete experience for both residents of Progreso and visitors. The wooden boardwalk of Progreso, colloquially known as the “Deck”, is one of the most visited structures in Progreso. Built primarily of wood, it extends along one side of the coast and connects the traditional boardwalk with the international one.
