This Sunday, March 9th, the day after the 8M march in Mérida, Mérida woke up to a peculiar scene, with the support of City Hall staff, the main streets were kept clean, but not free of the marks left by the protesters who demonstrated on International Women’s Day.
The Yucatecan capital witnessed an imposing protest, the marks remain on the walls of streets such as the main 60, the 47, the gastronomic corridor and, of course, the city center, around the emblematic Plaza Grande.
For their part, the monuments on Paseo de Montejo, recently restored, remained intact thanks to the precautions taken by the municipal authorities.
Many of the graffiti speak of struggle, of rights, of a constant demand for gender equality and the end of violence against women, a struggle that does not go unnoticed, and many more against the oppressive government after the strong events that occurred the night before.
The Government Palace, which had been guarded by a security shield the night before, was already clear and only traces of the previous hectic hours were visible, such as paint stains, eggs and shells.
For its part, the Municipal Palace can be seen clean and without broken glass after the feminist demonstrations.
