Dollar strengthens even more against the peso

MEXICO CITY — The U.S. dollar continues to surge to unprecedented heights in relation to the Mexican currency, moving well above 18 pesos.

Exchange centers in the Mexico City airport were buying dollars at an average price of 18.40 pesos and selling them at 17.29 pesos on Thursday Jan. 14.
The landmark exchange-rate record of 18 pesos to the dollar was set on Jan. 6, as the U.S. currency broke the 18 peso mark for the first time ever.
On Thursday Jan. 14, the highest price of the U.S. currency was 18.49 pesos for sale and lowest 17.29 pesos for purchase at the “Benito Juárez” Mexico City International Airport (AICM), Notimex reported.

In airport exchange houses, the euro provided up to 20.39 pesos and was acquired at a lowest cost of 18.70 pesos.

The peso has been affected by low international oil prices, concerns about the health of the Chinese economy and speculation that the Chinese government will devalue its currency, among other issues.
Speculation about a possible revaluation of the Mexican currency continues.
