Two women arrested following Mérida seizure of 350 kilograms of marijuana

At least 350 kilos of cannabis were seized by Public Security Secretariat (SSP) agents in Fraccionamiento Yucalpetén, west side of Mérida. Two women were arrested.

Preliminary data indicates that on Thursday January 28th, at 12 noon, SSP agents placed a checkpoint on Avenida Mérida 2000, between Calles 67 and 65-A, Fraccionamiento Yucalpetén.

Shortly before 2 pm, a Chrysler Voyager minivan, with Yucatan license plates YZU-53-60, with two middle aged women on board was stopped, and in the back of the vehicle, several packages sealed with masking tape were found.

The police proceeded to a routine check and found that the boxes were filled with marijuana, totalling at least 350 kilos (772 lbs).

Officers immediately detained the two women, one about 50 years old and the other between 35 and 40. SSP agents notified the Monitoring Unit and Police Intelligence (Umipol), the suspects were taken to the premises of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and their legal status is yet to be determined.
