The Mexican Space Agency and NASA are collaborating in the development of “mini satellites” in order to create apps that serve to alert the public about possible natural disasters.
NASA’s AMES Research Center in collaboration with the Mexican Space Agency recently agreed to design and build “mini satellites”. Additionally, they’ll also be working toward the extension of the residences program for new Mexican students throughout 2016.
Javier Mendieta Jiménez, CEO of Mexico’s Space Agency, and Eugene L. Tu, director of the NASA-AMES, agreed at a meeting that these projects have the purpose of strengthening the strategic alliance between these two agencies and boost the spatial development in Mexico, as part of the agenda that both organizations have for this year.
In a statement issued by Mexico’s Ministry of Communications and Transportation, they announced that both officials defined the actions and guidelines for cooperation between the two organizations.
Besides these projects, this year the two organizations also seek to collaborate on the development and dissemination of satellite imagery applications to effectively alert the public about possible natural disasters.
Also during the meeting they defined NASA’s participation in the 2016 International Astronautical Congress, to be held in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, which will aim to promote the development of the space sector in Mexico.
