PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Q. Roo — Fifty-nine year-old  Missouri lawyer John Loveless and his deceased girlfriend Tamra Turpin took a comfortable vacation to Playa del Carmen that apparently turned tragic for Turpin and into a nightmare for Loveless.

The couple were presumably going on a vacation that Loveless had anticipated, visiting the attractions along the Mayan Riviera south of Cancun.

Turpin and Loveless had been friends for several years before they started dating in the past year, said Jodi Mills, Turpin’s sister who lives in Missouri. Mills added that Loveless used to “wine and dine her, and treat her well.”

Turpin had suffered from depression after the death of her father and battled lingering migraines and back pain from a car crash when she was a teenager, her sister said.

On the day Tamra Turpin died, Loveless made a phone call to Mills stating Turpin had gone crazy after a heated argument, which caused her to take medication, and ended up having seizures, which later led to a suicide.

Loveless neglected calling an ambulance stating he believed she was “resting comfortably.”

Mexican authorities say Turpin’s cause of death was asphyxia by strangulation.

John Loveless was detained at the Cancun Airport while trying to fly back to the U.S and is now in custody while investigators and officials try to find out what exactly happened.
