KATUNIL, Yuc. — Six people died and 20 were injured in a bus crash early Monday July 25 near Kantunil, in eastern Yucatan state.
According to preliminary information, the bus operated by Autobuses de Oriente (ADO) left Playa del Carmen and stopped in Tulum, Quintana Roo, bound for Merida.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday near the town of Kantuil, about 68 kilometers east of Merida on Highway 180, the ADO bus crashed into another bus that was stopped on the road due to a flat tire.
The driver of the stopped bus reportedly had installed warning signals on the roadway, while some passengers descended from the vehicle.
After the accident, several ambulances arrived on the scene to help the injured.
In the crash four people died; several hours later in the hospital, the driver of the parked bus and a passenger died.
As reported in The Yucatan Times, on Monday July 4, a passenger bus operated by a tour company crashed near Tulum, killing 11 passengers and leaving 20 injured.
