A tropical depression in the eastern Caribbean Thursday Aug. 11 was heading toward the Yucatan Peninsula and will affect the area Saturday and Sunday, but likely only with wet weather.

For Thursday and Friday stable conditions in the region are expected, but for the weekend moderate rainfall is anticipated in connection with the entry of a new tropical wave, reports the National Water Commission (Conagua).

According to the forecast for Thursday and Friday high temperatures were expected to reach 34-38 degrees Celsius (93-100 F) in Yucatan and Campeche. For Quintana Roo the anticipated maximum was 33-37 degrees Celsius (91-98 F).

However, for Saturday rainfall potential is increased from the influence of an intense tropical wave, which yesterday was located in the eastern Caribbean.

The weather phenomenon is expected to cause moderate to heavy rains Saturday and Sunday.

Conagua issued notice of a tropical wave in the Caribbean Sea moving towards the Peninsula.

It was not expected to become a tropical storm or cyclone.
